“To Wolverhampton family. It’s really hard for me. It’s time to say goodbye. I think about the first time I wore a golden jersey. And Wolverhampton fans welcomed me like a family. Wolverhampton fans believed in me and cheered for me. We made memories together that we will remember forever,” Netu wrote on his SNS account.
“It’s not easy to leave. But I know this is not the end,” Netu said. “I will always hold Wolverhampton in my heart. I will always be grateful to all of you who made me comfortable and trusted me. I will miss you a lot, but I think we will meet again. Until then, I will support Wolverhampton wherever I am. Once a wolf is a wolf forever.”
Portuguese striker Netu is set to take on a new challenge at Chelsea. Chelsea officially announced Monday that it signed a seven-year contract with Netu. According to 90MIN, a British football club, Chelsea has invested 54 million pounds (or around 94 billion won) in order to recruit Netu. Until now, Netu had been linked to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, where Son Heung-min plays as the “captain,” but Chelsea, who belatedly joined the bid to recruit Netu, took actions to successfully recruit him.
Netu played as the core of attacks by South Korean strikers Hwang Hee-chan and Wolverhampton. Netu, who can play as left and right wingers, had two goals and nine assists in 20 matches in the league last season. Despite tough times due to his injury, he did his part. On top of that, Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha also scored 12 goals each, confirming that Wolverhampton would remain in the EPL with ease.
There was no choice but to pour out love calls for Netu, and he ended up wearing a Chelsea uniform. Netu, who previously played for Braga (Portugal) and Lazio (Italy), moved to Wolverhampton in 2019. There were difficult times due to frequent injuries, but he properly scored a poten last season. Hwang Hee-chan said goodbye, “Don’t forget Korean,” uploading a photo with Netu on his SNS.
Chelsea also brought along Esteban Willian, Kiernan Dewsbury Hall, Philippe Jorgensen, Omari Keliman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo along with Netu this summer. On top of that, the team is close to signing a 38 million-pound transfer fee for Atletico striker Samu Omorodion. It is truly a “storm of recruitment.” Chelsea is committed to dispel its slump from the last season.
