“Goodbye Goldschmidt” who actually broke up with “MVP 2 years ago” STL

Paul Goldschmidt (37), who won the 2022 National League Most Valuable Player (MVP), has completed a five-year-$130 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

St. Louis had its final regular season game against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, the U.S. on the 30th (Korea time).

Goldschmidt, who started as St. Louis’ No. 3 and designated hitter on the day, had no hits and two strikeouts in two at-bats before being replaced by a pinch-hitter.

As a result, Goldschmidt hit .244 with 22 home runs, 64 RBIs, 70 runs and 146 hits in 154 games this season, and a 0.300 OPS 0.711 on-base percentage. 스포츠토토

Sharp aging. Goldschmidt won MVP with 35 home runs-OPS 0.981 just two years ago, but his performance this season plummeted and he was disappointed.

In response, The Athletic reported that Goldschmidt effectively ended his career in St. Louis, saying that St. Louis will not hold Goldschmidt back.

Goldschmidt, whose contract with St. Louis has expired, will turn 38 in 2025. However, Goldschmidt said earlier this month that he will not retire immediately.

As a result, Goldschmidt is expected to acquire a free agent status and sign a one- or two-year contract. Of course, he will have to deal with a sharp decrease in annual salary.

Goldschmidt transferred to St. Louis in a trade ahead of the 2019 season. Shortly thereafter, he signed a five-year – $130 million contract.

In his six years with St. Louis, he played in 836 games with a batting average of 0.278, 153 home runs, 476 RBIs, 495 runs and 873 hits, and a 0.360 OPS 0.843 on-base percentage.
