The second round of PO between Samsung and LG, which was scheduled to be held at Daegu Samsung Lions Park on the 14th, was postponed due to rain.

Samsung will let go of Won Tae-in, who was scheduled to take the mound on Friday, on Saturday. On the other hand, LG, which had previously announced Detrick N.S. as its starting pitcher on Sunday, has changed to Son Joo-young.

Won and Son ranked first and second among Korean pitchers with 3.66 and 3.79 ERA, respectively. They ranked sixth and eighth respectively in the entire league including foreign pitchers. They represent Korean right-handed and left-handed pitchers in this season’s league.

Samsung aims to win its second consecutive PO title at home with Won Tae-in at the forefront. If the team wins the second round, it will be able to move to Seoul more easily. After losing the first round, LG aims to counterattack in the second round with Son Joo-young as its coach. “My goal is to win and lose one game in Daegu,” said Yeom Kyung-yeop.

Won went 15-6 with a 3.66 ERA in 28 appearances during the regular season. He tied for the top of the list with Kwak Bin of the Doosan Bears.

This is the second fall baseball for Won Tae-in, who joined Samsung after receiving the first nomination in 2019. Taking the mound as the third pitcher in Game 2 of the playoffs against Doosan in the 2021 postseason, he allowed two hits and four outs in 1 1/3 innings. As Samsung was eliminated by losses in Game 1 and 2, he did not get a chance to start.

Since then, Won has grown into a right-handed pitcher who represents Korea beyond the ace of Samsung. He has been selected for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, and the 2023 Asian Baseball Championship. He did not do well in his two appearances against LG this season, with one loss and an ERA of 4.09. However, he was quite strong at his home stadium in Daegu, where many home runs are made, with 10 wins and two losses and an ERA of 3.65.

Son was the best starting pitcher among the 10 teams this season. He had nine wins, 10 losses and one hold with an earned run average of 3.68 in 28 games. Having had two wins, six losses and an earned run average of 7.24 until last year, Son has rapidly grown into a Korean left-hander representing LG.

Due to team circumstances, he allowed two hits, one walk, and 11 strikeouts during 7 1/3 innings in two semi-playoff games in which he played as a bullpen session. He won the Daily MVP in the third and fifth games of the semi-playoff games.

Son was very strong this season with two wins and an earned run average of 1.04 in three games against Samsung. In an away game in Daegu, he pitched once, allowing six hits and three runs (one earned run) during 5 1/3 innings.

“Won Tae-in is a pitcher who throws his ball confidently regardless of whether he is a left-handed or right-handed hitter,” Samsung manager Park Jin-man said of Won Tae-in, who will start the game on the day. “I like to change-ups that are effective in catching left-handed hitters. If we reenact what we saw during the season, we will get good results.”

“The flow will change. I think the starting pitcher will change,” LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop said with a smile. “I changed it to Son Joo-young because tomorrow’s game is important. I had a schedule to take the mound after three to four days of rest, but I have more time to rest.”
