The transfer fee was not disclosed, but British media said that 15 million euros plus 3 million euros would be added as a supplementary provision.

“I delayed announcing the news. I wanted to make sure every document was signed and organized,” Emerson said. “Now I can say with great pride that I am a Milan player. This transfer is a great opportunity for my career and I am very eager to start a new chapter. I am confident that my career will be full of challenges and achievements and I will give everything to show my best football on the field.”

Emerson was among the open Tottenham release targets. According to Football Insider, Emerson and his agent have been instructed by the club to ‘find a new team’ in the transfer window this summer.

AC Milan have shown a steady interest in Emerson even before the transfer window opened. Emerson longed to join AC Milan from the beginning of the negotiations, and the transfer was made when Tottenham completed negotiations with AC Milan on the transfer fee.

Emerson, who left Brazil in 2018 and entered the European stage when he signed with Atletico, wore an FC Barcelona uniform in 2019 in recognition of his potential.

He was loaned to Real Betis to gain experience in playing, and he succeeded in making a soft landing in the big league by playing in 33 games in the 2019-20 season and 34 games in the 2020-21 season.

Emerson returned to Barcelona in the 2021-22 season and played in three matches before joining Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham invested 25.8 million pounds (43 billion won) in a five-year contract to buy Emerson.

As a player hired by the club by investing a large transfer fee, Emerson secured Tottenham’s right-side defender as soon as he transferred.

Unlike in the Primera Liga, however, settling in the Premier League was not easy. Unlike his robust performance and speed, he was criticized by Tottenham fans for his inaccurate crosses and frequent mistakes.

Crucially, Emerson’s position changed when Tottenham recruited Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon at the end of the winter transfer market in January last year. As coach Enze Postecoglou used Porro as the main side defender, Emerson’s playing time was noticeably reduced.

When Emerson was sluggish at Tottenham, local media highly regarded the possibility of returning to Primerarira, citing that Emmerson had a good performance when he was in Real Betis. Rumors of a return to Barcelona were also raised.

Emerson Juru, Emerson’s father and agent, said, “We reached an agreement after months of negotiations. We are very pleased to announce that Emerson is now a part of Milan. It is a decisive moment for Emerson’s career. We will have the opportunity to prove and reaffirm all of his potential as we always know it to be extraordinary. Potential and power are different concepts, and I can affirm that Emerson combines them in a unique way.”

He added, “He is ready, complete and ready to devote 100 percent to the club. He will play great football and show all the abilities he has. We believe that this is the biggest and best moment for his career. There are no limits or obstacles for those who have infinite and uncompliant minds. Emerson knows that now is the time to show all of his high potential. I will support him with confidence and determination to achieve the success he deserves.”

Emerson Zulu also greatly appreciated Emerson’s potential in April, when rumors of a transfer were pouring out over the harsh criticism against him. Appearing on the Chala podcast in Brazil, he said, “There is a high possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham. We believe it is time for Emerson to take a bigger leap forward and go to a team fighting for the title.”

“The team that Emerson will transfer to could be in or out of the Premier League. What is certain is that it is a big club,” he said. “In my opinion, Real Madrid (Spain) is the best fit for Emerson’s style.”
