“I’m in better condition than yesterday. I think I’ve gotten better,” Koo told reporters ahead of the second playoff game against LG at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Sunday. “I had a headache even before the game. I tend to have migraines sometimes. I was very worried that I might be damaged during the game.”
Koo started as the third left fielder, and had three hits (one homer), one walk, one strikeout, three RBIs and three runs from four times at bat. His performance was impressive enough to make him the MVP right after the game.
After the game, however, he went to the hospital to receive fluid due to symptoms of vomiting and dizziness. He did not attend the MVP award ceremony and official interviews.
A day later, he stood in front of reporters again. His condition has improved.
Koo Ja-wook said, “My condition is better than yesterday, so I have no problem playing. You’re worried a lot, but it’s better than I thought. If I fall out, it will damage the team, so I think I have to endure this much pain.”
Samsung had three home runs on the previous day, and won 10-4. This is the first time in 3275 days since Game 1 of the Korean Series against the Doosan Bears on Oct. 26, 2015. The victory is all the more significant because it was the first time for the team to win in the fall baseball league held at Lions Park.
Koo Ja-wook said, “It was the first autumn baseball in Rafak, and I feel good to be here. Rather than saying I did well, I had good pitching and defense,” adding, “It was the result of all the players’ concentration.”
“I didn’t have to worry about young players, especially when I saw them display good facial expressions and energetic performance. It was good that Lee Jae-hyun and Kim Young-woong showed good defense in the infield. I think they are gaining more experience. I think it is the foundation to become a good player. I will continue to do well in the future,” he said.
How did you feel about the game against LG? “There are many good pitchers in LG. They also have the power to follow suit consistently,” Koo said. “We need to stay alert and play until the end.”
He also made no secret of his desire to advance to the Korean Series. “I think I played in the first round with the thought that it should not collapse because many fans came and the players were watching,” he said. “Not only me but also us and LG must have a desire to go up. I think my goal is to set the tone and go up as fast as possible. I think I need enough rest, so my goal is to reach the Korean Series with the least number of games.”
