Korea loses to Austria on first day of World Women’s Handball Championships

South Korea’s women’s handball team lost to Austria by one goal on the first day of the World Championship.

South Korea fell to Austria 29-30 in the first game of Pool C on the first day of the 26th World Women’s Handball Championship in Stavanger, Norway, on Tuesday (Sept. 30).

Trailing 12-16 at halftime, Korea rallied in the second half, led by Woo Beetna (Seoul Metropolitan Government), who scored 11 goals on the day, and Ryu Eun-hee (Gyorgyi, Hungary), who had six goals, but ultimately succumbed to a one-goal deficit.

Korea, looking to redeem themselves after a 10-goal loss to Japan in the final of the Hangzhou Asian Games in October, got off to a shaky start against Austria, a European underdog.

Korea tied the game with 10 seconds left in regulation through Woo Beetna, but then conceded a 7-meter throw-in to Austria to secure the win. 캡틴토토 주소

The 32-nation tournament features the top three finishers in each group.

South Korea will play Greenland in the second round on Dec. 2.

South Korea has won the biennial world championship once before, in 1995.

In the last edition, in 2021, they finished 14th out of 32 countries, and their last quarterfinal appearance was in 2009 in China, where they finished sixth.
